What determines the model and performance of rotary drilling rig?

Many customers who buy rotary drilling rigs don’t know what parameters determine the model and performance of rotary drilling rigs, because they don’t know enough information about rotary drilling rigs at the beginning of purchase. Let’s explain now.

The components affecting the model and performance of rotary drilling rig mainly include the following points:

Rotary drilling rig-1

1) It depends on the brand and model of engine adopted by the manufacturer.

If it is high-power, the drilling speed will be fast and its performance will be better.

2) The maximum lifting force of the main winch

The greater the lifting force, the faster the kelly bar is lifted, especially when the kelly bar is stuck by foreign objects in the hole, the speed change of the lifting force is more obvious. The shorter the time, the higher the construction efficiency.

3) Torque of power head

The greater the torque, the greater the downforce and pull-out force provided by the pressurizing device to the drill bucket, and the greater the drilling capacity of the machine. This parameter is especially obvious when the rotary drilling rig has the construction requirements of drilling the rock.

4) Type of chassis

The crawler-type chassis is more expensive than the truck-type chassis, because the crawler-type rotary drilling rig can adapt to the terrain well and is relatively stable during the construction process. The longer the track shoe and the wider the belt spread, the better the stability and, of course, the less flexibility.

5) The type of kelly bar

There are friction kelly bar and interlocking kelly bar. The application range of interlocking kelly bar is wider than friction kelly bar, and it can also improve the pulling force of the power head. The type of kelly bar used mainly depends on the geological conditions and cost budget of the construction. Some projects do not need to drilling the rock, so you could use friction kelly bar, which can reduce the cost.

6) The diameter of the backets and the height of the kelly bar also affect the performance of the rotary drilling rig

They determine the scope of application of rotary drilling rigs: for example, small-diameter backets are used to drill water wells; augers are used to drill holes in concrete.
