Recently, the SHD135 horizontal directional drill independently developed by SINOVO has successfully finished the phased construction of a pipeline project in Panama. Working continuously and stably under local high-temperature, high-humidity and soft-soil complex conditions, the rig exceeded expectations in construction precision and efficiency, gaining full recognition from the client and construction team. As core trenchless machinery, horizontal directional drills can complete pilot hole drilling, reaming and pipeline pullback along pre-designed paths without extensive surface excavation. They are widely applied in laying pipelines for gas, water supply and drainage, power, communication and oil & gas, especially suitable for crossings beneath highways, rivers and urban areas with advantages of environmental protection, short construction period and low overall cost.
Panama has a tropical marine climate with high humidity and heavy rainfall all year round. The soil features high moisture and poor stability in rainy seasons, which may easily trigger borehole collapse, bring difficulties to mud formulation and increase failure risks of electrical and hydraulic components, setting strict standards for the rig’s sealing, hydraulic stability and continuous load capacity.
Optimized for such working conditions, the SHD135 HDD is fitted with Cummins engine, Sauer closed hydraulic system and Poclain rotation motor. It provides sufficient power while cutting energy consumption by about 20% compared with traditional models. The PLC intelligent control system supports real-time monitoring and adjustment of drilling tracks. Key components adopt moisture-proof sealing design. Its crawler chassis adapts to muddy sites, and the supporting mud system effectively stabilizes boreholes to prevent collapse.
According to the on-site project manager, the SHD135 operated reliably with few breakdowns during long continuous working hours and solved major local construction challenges. The client highly recognized the equipment quality and overseas technical service of SINOVO and intends to cooperate on more projects. This successful Panama project serves as an important milestone for SINOVO to expand the Latin American trenchless equipment market.
